Job summary

Alpha School is seeking a Literacy Specialist to supervise K-3 students in an on-site, full-time capacity. You will coach students through app-based core learning, diagnose decoding gaps, and implement a bespoke fifteen-minute sequence to close gaps.

You will lead morning sessions, life-skills workshops, and daily routines, staying with students through lunch and recess while tracking weekly progress and data for parents.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years working with children ages 4-9: teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps or similar.
• At least 2 years teaching reading in grades K-3 within the last 5 years.
• Completed structured-literacy training (LETRS, IMSE, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Fundations, UFLI, CERI, Neuhaus, SIPPS, Really Great Reading) or a master's in reading or literacy.
• Bachelor's degree required; teaching certificate not required.
• Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Get every K-3 student to daily learning goals and close reading gaps.
• Run short structured-literacy sessions with small groups, diagnose gaps, teach a sequence you designed, and check transfer.
• Lead morning launch, life-skills workshops, and check-chart activities for student movement.
• Drive weekly app goals using school currency, leaderboards, and gamification.
• Stay with students through lunch, recess and closing, addressing frustration with a plan.
