Descrição da oferta de emprego

Community Storytelling Officer (Part-time), Carlisle and Cumbria

Help Carlisle and rural Cumbria tell their own local news. Firefly runs local magazines across the UK, and the stories come from the people who live there. Your job is to get schools, young people and rural communities telling theirs, on camera and on the page, from Carlisle out to the market towns and villages.

You will run regular sessions and events in your patch, help first-timers (from residents to local businesses) publish on our platform, get out and about meeting the groups and businesses that matter, and be the friendly face in the short phone clips and social posts that show people what is possible. No journalism experience needed: you help people tell their own stories.

Pay 1,050 to 1,175 pounds a month for about 9 days a month, depending on experience, plus 28 days holiday a year pro rata including bank holidays, and a workplace pension. Travel and expenses paid, mileage at 45p a mile. Fixed-term employed, 1 November 2026 to 19 March 2027, start date by agreement. This role works with schools and young people, so the offer is conditional on an Enhanced DBS check, arranged and paid by us.

This is the same vacancy as our Community Outreach Officer, North East and Cumbria advert; the role covers the whole North East and Cumbria patch.

Closes Wednesday 21 October 2026. We recruit on skills and potential, and welcome applications from everyone, especially people from communities under-represented in local news. Tell us if you need any adjustments to apply or interview. You must have the right to work in the UK; we are unable to sponsor visas. Privacy notice: fireflynewmedia.com/jobs/privacy
