Job summary

BNSF Railway is hiring for a Railcar Carman in the Mechanical Department. This full-time role involves inspecting and repairing railcars, operating welding equipment, and using heavy machinery. Shift options include 3 eight-hour rotations; travel is minimal, with a strong emphasis on safety in a union environment.

Salary is paid hourly within a band, with comprehensive benefits and paid training. Eligible candidates must meet the listed basic qualifications and be capable of working in a 24/7

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• At least 18 years old by start date.
• Ability to read, write and communicate English.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcar frames, bodies, safety appliances and wheels for defects to ensure proper repair of equipment.
• Maintain, replace, inspect and repair air brake components per regulations.
• Operate electrical and gas welding equipment and torches to join metals and shape parts.
• Operate specialized off-highway vehicles (forklifts, cranes, track mobiles, UTVs).
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment across varied weather and loud conditions.
