Job summary

BNSF Railway's Mechanical Department is hiring for the Railcar Repair (Carman) role in Los Angeles, with occasional placement in Commerce, CA. This full-time position (40 hrs/wk) includes inspection, repair, and maintenance of railcars, operating welding equipment, and adherence to safety regulations.

Applicants must meet the basic qualifications, be able to lift up to 50 lbs, hold a valid driver's license, and work specified shifts in a union environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and communicate English.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to work the designated shift and comply with safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcar frames, bodies, safety appliances, and wheels for defects to ensure proper repair.
• Maintain, replace, inspect, and repair air brake components per regulations.
• Operate welding equipment to join and shape metal parts.
• Operate off-highway vehicles as needed.
