Job summary

BNSF Railway's Mechanical Department in Newton, KS is seeking a Railcar Carman for a full-time role (40 hrs/wk) with a union environment. Responsibilities include inspecting railcar frames and safety devices, repairing air brakes, welding, and operating heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcar frames, bodies, safety devices and wheels for defects to ensure proper repair.
• Maintain, replace, inspect, and repair air brake components and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Operate electrical and gas welding equipment and torches to join metals and shape parts.
• Operate specialized off-highway equipment such as forklifts and cranes.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment under varying conditions (weather, noise, and machinery).
