Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a skilled Railcar Repairer to perform repair, inspection, and maintenance work on railroad cars in a union environment. The role requires welding in 2F/3F/4F positions, operating heavy and light equipment, and complying with federal and AAR regulations.

Travel may be required for training and certification. Locations include shop and outdoor environments with shift work across all three shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical experience required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad safety and operations rules.
• Inspect car components per AAR/FRA standards.
• Obtain and file repair records and data from computer systems.
• Operate cutting torch and welding processes as required.
• Use equipment like forklifts and car moving machinery.
• Rerail cars and locomotives and perform related wreck-service tasks.
