Job summary

BNSF Railway in Los Angeles is seeking a Railcar Carman to join our Mechanical Department. This full-time position supports the repair and maintenance of railcars to ensure safe and reliable service, with shifts across three 8-hour options and a 40-hour workweek.

Qualified candidates will work in a safety-sensitive environment with rigorous union standards and on-the-job paid training. Travel is minimal, and relocation is not provided.

Qualifications

• Able to work now and in the future without sponsorship in employment authorization.
• At least 18 years old by the start date listed above.
• Able to report for duty at the designated work location.
• Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
• Able to work the above shift/hours.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to visually distinguish colors and signals in the work environment.
• Able to climb ladders and work on railcars as needed.

Responsibilities

• Inspect railcar frames, bodies, and components for defects to ensure proper repair.
• Maintain, replace, inspect, and repair air brake components per regulations.
• Operate electrical and gas welding equipment and torches to join metals.
• Operate specialized off-highway motor vehicles such as forklifts and cranes.
