Job summary

MTA Metro-North Railroad seeks MofE Railcar Electrical Workers to inspect, repair and maintain electrical components on diesel/electric locomotives. Work at Grand Central Terminal and other NYC/CT locations, performing inspections, troubleshooting and maintenance in compliance with standards.

Responsibilities include using meters and tools, following safety rules, and coordinating with shop operations. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and appropriate electrical/tech qualifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, or TASC.
• Two years of full-time verifiable work experience as an Electrician, Electromechanical/Electronic or Automotive Technician or Maintainer.
• IBEW journeyman's card.
• Graduation from an approved trade or technical school, with 600 hours in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology.
• Graduation from a four-year vocational high school, or its educational equivalent, with a major in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree, or higher, in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain electrical components on diesel/electric and electric locomotives.
• Headquarters at multiple locations including Grand Central Terminal, High Bridge, Croton-Harmon, and more.
• Inspect locomotives’ electrical systems and test circuitry with meters and diagnostic tools.
• Troubleshoot electrical, electromechanical, and electronic malfunctions.
• Repair or replace electrical and electronic components inside locomotive cabs and electrical compartments.
• Operate shop instruments and electrical/hydraulic tools safely.
• Follow safety rules and ensure equipment and work areas are in safe condition.
