Job summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking an Electrician in the Car Equipment Division to perform skilled electrical work on the PATH fleet of railcars, including troubleshooting, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of electrical and electronic equipment.

Under supervision, you will diagnose and repair subsystems such as traction control, HVAC, lighting, and communications, with bench-work away from railcars and using Portable Test Equipment, hand and power tools, following

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Four (4) years paid full-time work experience as a journeyman in the Electrical trade -OR- completion of a registered Car Equipment Electrician Apprentice Program.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical and electronic equipment of the railcar subsystems (traction control, HVAC, lighting, communications, APU, signage).
Perform fault log downloads from the railcars using Portable Test Equipment (PTE) for troubleshooting and repair.
Remove, install, assemble, and disassemble railcar systems; perform bench-work repairs away from the railcar.
Use electrical test equipment to troubleshoot and repair defects; clean PCBs and components.
Use hand and power tools to perform duties.
Work in accordance with PATH procedures, FRA and OSHA regulations.
