Job summary

MTA Metro-North Railroad seeks skilled Carman to inspect, maintain and repair rail cars at Grand Central Terminal area. You will work on car bodies, glazing, braking systems and associated assemblies, following manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

The role requires vocational training or equivalent experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to work in a union environment; shifts may vary and include overtime. Training provided.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED or TASC.
• Completion of vocational training as a Machinist or Mechanic OR two years of mechanic/carpenter experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair rail car body components and systems.
• Install carbody glazing and make mechanical modifications per specs.
• Perform inspections under federal/state/local rules and document results.
• Operate support equipment during inspections and repairs.
