Job summary

MTA Metro-North Railroad is seeking a Railcar Electrical Worker to inspect, repair, and maintain electrical components on diesel/electric and electric locomotives across multiple locations in the Metro-North service area. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and adhering to safety rules.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet additional qualification options such as an IBEW journeyman card or appropriate trade school

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or TASC.
• Two years of full-time verifiable work experience as an Electrician, Electromechanical/Electronic or Automotive Technician or Maintainer.
• IBEW journeyman's card.
• Graduation from an approved trade or technical school, with a major course of study in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology, totaling 600 hours.
• Graduation from a four-year vocational high school, or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, with a major course of study in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree, or higher degree, in Electrical, Electromechanical or Electronic Technology.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain electrical components on locomotives.
• Perform scheduled electrical inspections with testing equipment and look for issues.
• Diagnose electrical, electromechanical, and electronic malfunctions and take corrective action.
• Repair or replace electrical/electromechanical/electronic components in locomotives and perform maintenance.
• Safely operate shop machines and tools and use measuring instruments.

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or TASC

IBEW journeyman's card

Trade/technical school graduate (600 hours) in Electrical/Electromechanical/Electronic Technology

Four-year vocational high school graduate in Electrical/Electromechanical/Electronic Technology

Associate degree or higher in Electrical/Electromechanical/Electronic Technology
