Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. seeks a yard switch operator to move trains and cars in rail yards and along the mainline under dispatcher guidance. You will operate track switches, couple and uncouple cars, and relay instructions using signals or radio.

The role requires at least two years of relevant experience, the ability to work outdoors in a 24/7 schedule, and a GED or high school diploma. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Two years of work experience required.
• Railroad or related industry experience is a plus.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and 24/7 shifts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct railcar and train movements and signal crews using lantern, flag signals, or radio.
• Observe, interpret, and relay movement signals affecting train movement.
• Operate track switches and apply/release hand brakes to direct engine or cars.
• Read and understand rules, timetables, train orders, and safety materials.
• Prepare daily reports and switch lists; complete train orders.
• Inspect train and equipment in motion and at rest.
• Couple air and electrical connections between locomotives.
• Assist with other projects as assigned.
