Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) seeks a Switchman to safely operate rail equipment and ensure timely freight delivery.

You will receive hands-on and classroom training to build a long-term career in the railroad industry, working outdoors in all weather and a physically active environment. You’ll comply with federal and state safety regulations, communicate with team members and customers, and perform track switching, railcar inspections, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license required
• Minimum 18 years of age or older

Responsibilities

• Comply with safety and operating regulations
• Coordinate train/railcar movement using signals or radio
• Operate track switches to determine train routes
• Inspect railcars and equipment in movement and at rest
• Read and understand railroad rule books and documentation
• Perform duties as assigned
