Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc. seeks a Manager, Work Equipment to act as the principal technical resource for engineering work equipment, vehicles, and their mechanical systems. You will shape standards, reliability programs, and maintenance practices across North America.

You will guide mechanics and operators, drive qualification programs, and collaborate with field leadership to improve safety and reliability while aligning with company standards.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or equipment reliability issues.
• Demonstrated experience supporting maintenance-of-way equipment, engineering vehicles, or other heavy equipment fleets.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance management principles, reliability improvement practices, and preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert for engineering equipment, vehicles, and associated mechanical systems.
• Develop, implement, and maintain standards, procedures, specifications, and technical guidance for inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of work equipment.
• Provide technical support for complex equipment failures, diagnostics, and repair strategies.
• Establish preventive maintenance requirements and reliability practices for work equipment and engineering vehicles.
• Support mechanics through technical guidance, mentoring, and specialized expertise.
• Review major repairs, rebuilds, and fleet upgrades to ensure alignment with standards and manufacturer recommendations.
• Analyze reliability, utilization, maintenance, and cost data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Support operator and mechanic qualification, training, and competency development.
