Job summary

E-J Group in New York is seeking a Project Manager for Signal Systems to lead end-to-end scope on rail infrastructure projects. You will manage wayside signal systems, interlockings, train control, PTC interfaces, and power integration, coordinating with subcontractors, OEMs, and clients.

This role demands strong documentation discipline, conflict resolution, and experience in active railroad environments under public contracts. Travel to Boston and other sites is involved.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of project manager experience, with signal systems on transit or rail projects.
  • Ability to read and administer signal design documents including circuit plans, control line diagrams, and cable plans.
  • Experience managing signal subcontractors, integrators, and OEM suppliers.
  • Familiarity with signal testing, commissioning, and cutover in active railroad environments.
  • Experience with public transit agency contracts.
  • Ability to read and administer contract documents, including conflicts between specs and appendices.
  • Bachelor’s degree as above; engineering/construction focus preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vital signal scope on transit/rail projects, including subcontracts and OEMs.
  • Own signal scope matrix; resolve work divisions between integrators and E‑J.
  • Coordinate submittals and reviews: circuit plans, line diagrams, cable plans.
  • Oversee installation of wayside signal scope: cases, houses, switch machines, derails.
  • Identify conflicts between specs and drawings; drive to client resolution.
  • Coordinate signal scope with adjacent systems: communications and traction power.
  • Develop and manage cost-loaded project schedules and milestones.
  • Procure and coordinate signal materials; track lead times and milestones.
  • Manage budgets, costs, and cost-saving measures.
  • Prepare and negotiate change orders; maintain contemporaneous documentation.
  • Coordinate testing, cutovers, and force account logistics with client.
  • Lead project meetings and liaise with field supervision.
  • Provide regular updates to clients and stakeholders.
