Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Communications Design Manager for Rail & Transit to lead the design, integration, and commissioning of communications systems in Lynnwood, WA. You will coordinate cross-disciplinary teams, oversee system architectures, and ensure regulatory compliance for passenger and freight rail environments.

The role requires 15–20 years in rail/transit with a focus on communications, strong technical writing, and P.E. licensure.

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
P.E. license is Required.
Familiarity with industry standards (AREMA, IEEE, FCC, FRA, FTA) and safety certification processes.
15 to 20 years of experience in rail/transit environments.
10+ years of rail/transit experience focused on communications.

Responsibilities

Leads design, integration, and commissioning of communications systems for rail environments.
Coordinates multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects and ensure interoperability.
Provides technical leadership during hazard analysis, FMEA, and safety certification processes.
Defines scope and executes projects related to communications systems.
Represents the organization in client meetings, regulatory agencies, and with vendors.
Monitors quality, overviews installations, and conducts site inspections.
