Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a qualified technician to inspect, test and maintain plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on High Speed Trainsets. Work must comply with FRA and Amtrak Tier II standards and guidelines.

The role requires reading blueprints, troubleshooting, and performing repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Applicants should be able to train others and demonstrate solid computer and measurement skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repair, replacement and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Experience testing equipment and repairs to water and sanitation systems.
  • Must complete training and attain/retain certification applicable to assigned job.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of electrical tools and measurements to meet standards.
  • Ability to train others in attaining higher skill levels in inspections and repairs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspection, testing and maintenance per 49CFR and Amtrak Tier II standards on High Speed Trainset equipment.
  • Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of failures.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and systems.
  • Repairs tilting system, brake, water heating and sanitation systems.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs heating and cooling equipment and related piping.
  • Maintains care and use of materials, test equipment, and hand tools.
