Job summary

Amtrak is hiring a Sheetmetal Worker Tech in Long Island City, NY. The role focuses on inspection, testing, and maintenance of plumbing, hydraulic and pneumatic systems on High Speed Trainsets in accordance with FRA and Amtrak Tier III standards.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, plus technical school or apprenticeship; experience with mechanical systems and railroad equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of technical school or apprenticeship preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting, repair and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Experience testing equipment and repairs to water and sanitation systems.
• Experience in maintenance of railroad equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection, testing and maintenance per 49 CFR regs and Amtrak Tier III standards on High Speed Trainset equipment.
• Troubleshoots equipment to determine causes of failures and corrective actions.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and systems.
• Repairs tilting, brake, water heating and sanitation systems; maintains and fixes heating and cooling equipment and piping.
• Maintains proper care and use of materials, tools and equipment associated with the job.
