Job summary

Switchman/Conductors with Cando are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services. Working in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment, the Switching crew must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in locomotive operation or switching is preferred.
• Customer-oriented experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Rail industry experience preferred.
• Strong leadership and team-leading abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Solid work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of locomotive and train movements.
• Conduct clear and concise job briefings.
• Apply rules and switching procedures while operating locomotives/grounds staff.
• Provide protection of train, track, and equipment.
• Perform plant and equipment inspections including air brake tests.
• Comply with operating rules and safety procedures.
• Keep locomotive interior clean.
• Complete daily locomotive brake and safety device inspections.
• Complete daily reports and logs.
• Provide excellent customer service and promote company image.
• Participate in training or company initiatives.
