Job summary

Watco is hiring a Conductor/Switchman to control and coordinate railcar movements in yards, plants, or facilities to unload and load cars safely and efficiently. The role is a manual labor position with structured training during the introductory period.

Candidates should be able to follow directions, read orders, and communicate effectively in English. The position offers opportunities for growth within Watco's diverse network of railroads and logistics hubs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass and/or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
• Follow written and verbal directions to complete tasks on schedule
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math
• Read switching orders and supervise switching of cars
• Coordinate activities of switching crews and communicate with engineers and dispatchers
• Maintain records of cars switched including origin, destination, and cargo
• Assist with switching operations and operate hand brakes as needed
• Observe tracks for obstructions and communicate safety signals
