Job summary

Cando Rail & Terminals is seeking switchpersons to perform safe and efficient rail car switching in a fast-paced outdoor environment. You will work in teams to maximize efficiency while upholding stringent safety standards.

Responsibilities include operating switches and derails, conducting briefings, maintaining train and equipment safety, and completing daily reports. A strong teamwork ethic and physical fitness are essential to succeed at Cando.

Qualifications

• Excellent teamwork and customer service are essential.
• Ability to read and write general safety documentation and switching lists.
• Physically fit to pull up and down from railcars and handle hoses
• Comfort with using computer systems; daily use of Excel and Outlook
• Must obtain required certifications and pass drug/alcohol/medical clearances.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of locomotive and train movements; conduct briefings.
• Operate switches/derails and manage air hoses with a team for switching maneuvers.
• Provide protection of train, track and equipment.
• Perform plant and equipment inspections, including air brake tests.
• Comply with operating rules and safety regulations; promote safe work habits.
• Keep locomotive interior clean and safe.
• Complete daily locomotive brake/safety device tests and logs; assist customer service.
