Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad in Blair, NE is seeking a Signal System Technician to ensure safe and efficient rail operations. You will conduct signal system testing in accordance with FRA and UP requirements and lead installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a wide range of railroad signals and grade crossing devices.

Must obtain UP certification during probation and meet FMCSA medical standards. A valid driver's license and solid English communication skills are essential to perform

Qualifications

• Must have a valid drivers license.
• Proficient with print and digital information.
• Able to interpret, reference, evaluate, organize and record both non-technical and technical information.
• Computer literacy and basic keyboarding skills.
• Understand and follow safety rules and work practices.
• Communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written.
• Capable of working independently and in groups.
• Must complete an English assessment before interview (UP.jobs FAQs).

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems to identify problems and defects.
• Perform comprehensive testing of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems per FRA reporting requirements.
• Use troubleshooting to diagnose and fix malfunctions in signal circuitry and equipment.
• Assemble and disassemble signal crossing equipment as needed.
• Maintain, repair, and replace signal communication circuitry and components.
• Plan and track information related to signal circuitry and provide guidance to teammates.
• Work on excavation tasks required for installation.
• Adhere to railroad safety rules and company procedures.
• Foster positive working relationships with colleagues and customers.
