Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a Signal System Technician to ensure safety and efficiency of railroad operations. You will lead signal system testing, install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain crossing warning devices in accordance with FRA and UP requirements.

The role requires completing certification during probation, possessing a valid driver's license, and adhering to FMCSA medical qualifications. Expect fieldwork and safety-focused responsibilities on site.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive as part of the role.
• Ability to read, interpret, and record both non-technical and technical information.
• Proficient with computers and basic keyboarding skills.
• Commitment to safety practices and risk awareness on site.
• Clear and concise English communication with team and supervisors.
• Ability to work both independently and in teams.
• Complete an English assessment before interview.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of signal circuitry, equipment, and systems and address defects.
• Test signal circuitry and systems in line with FRA reporting requirements.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in signal systems and components.
• Assemble and disassemble signal crossing equipment as needed.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement tasks for signaling systems.
• Plan, organize, and track activities related to signaling equipment and guide teammates.
• Take responsibility for excavation work required for installations.
• Adhere to railroad safety rules and procedures to ensure safety.
• Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and customers.
• Ensure compliance with FRA and railroad rules and regulations.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned to improve efficiency.
