Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Supervisor of Rail Operations to lead the overnight rail plan, coordinate gondola handling, unloading, and yard activity, and ensure safe, efficient handoffs to the next shift.

You will monitor railcar status, track availability, and equipment, mentor staff, conduct shift briefings, and respond to delays or incidents while maintaining compliance with safety procedures and company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; rail/logistics education preferred.
• 5+ years in rail, terminal, solid waste, bulk-material or heavy industrial ops.
• 3+ years of supervising or coordinating an operating shift.
• Knowledge of gondola railcars, movement, unloading and yard ops.
• Experience with wheel loaders, excavators or similar equipment.
• OSHA/DOT/FRA safety requirements knowledge.
• Clear radio communication and the ability to manage time-sensitive activities.

Responsibilities

• Review plan and handoff; assign staff, equipment and track use based on safety and capacity.
• Direct gondola unloading, material transfer, trailer loading and yard upkeep.
• Coordinate inbound/outbound rail activity with Scale Ops and landfill leaders.
• Maintain inventory of loaded/empty gondolas with location and status.
• Lead start-of-shift briefings and coach staff on rail safety and procedures.
• Monitor production, unloading progress and equipment availability.
• Respond to delays, downtime or incidents; adjust plan and report issues.
• Prepare end-of-shift report with production and inventory details.
