Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Supervisor of Rail Operations to manage the overnight rail plan, direct gondola unloading, and coordinate with landfill and Scale Operations. You will lead a shift, track railcar status, and ensure safety protocols across operations.

The role requires 5+ years in rail or heavy industrial operations and strong leadership, with proficiency in MS Office and railcar-management tools. Night/weekend coverage is required; compensation reflects market rates.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; rail, logistics or technical education preferred.
5+ years in rail, terminal, solid waste, bulk-material or heavy industrial operations.
3+ years leading employees or coordinating an operating shift preferred.
Knowledge of gondola railcars, railcar movement, unloading and yard operations preferred.
Experience with wheel loaders, excavators or similar heavy equipment preferred.
OSHA, DOT, FRA safety knowledge appreciated.

Responsibilities

Review operating plan and shift handoff; assign staff, equipment and track usage based on safety and capacity.
Direct gondola unloading, material transfer and yard housekeeping during the shift.
Coordinate inbound/outbound rail activity with Scale Operations and landfill leadership.
Maintain accurate inventory of loaded/empty gondolas; track location and status.
Lead start-of-shift briefing; communicate expected activity and channels.
Monitor production, unloading progress and equipment availability; adjust plan as needed.
Respond to delays, downtime, staffing gaps or weather; ensure safe operations.
Prepare end-of-shift report covering production, inventory, staffing and follow-up items.
