Job summary

BNSF Railway is offering a Mechanical Management Trainee program designed to immerse you in locomotive and freight car maintenance with leadership development and hands-on training. You'll rotate through orientation at the Fort Worth headquarters, then Technical Training Center in Overland Park, followed by field training across departments.

The program requires relocation flexibility, travel, and a 40-hour week in a 24x7 environment.

Qualifications

• Legally authorized to work in the United States and 18+ on hire.
• Must be able to visually distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow) and see at night.
• Capable of working in a 24/7 environment including nights, weekends and holidays; travel up to 25%.
• Willing and able to relocate anywhere within the BNSF operating system for the summer and possibly other locations.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical shop and field operations, and prepare for a field operations supervisory position.
• Ensure safety of teams; conduct job safety briefings with employees.
• Provide periodic updates to the General Foreman to meet daily plan requirements.
• Supervise shop craft employees to safely execute terminal or shop operating plans.
• Ensure labor and equipment are positioned to inspect, test and repair equipment per daily plan.
• Safeguard compliance with BNSF policies, safety rules, union agreements, and FRA regulations.
• Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience in a dynamic environment.
• Daily work includes outdoor/indoor safety-sensitive tasks in varied weather and noisy environments.
