Position Summary
Under general supervision, coordinates and oversees the activities of Rail Janitors and work groups assigned to rail janitorial services. Assists management in developing and implementing maintenance improvement programs based on inspection results, industry best practices, and department goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees activities of janitorial services work teams for assigned facilities.
- Monitors employee work performance, coaches and instructs employees according to work standards, and coordinates work schedules to ensure clean and safe facilities for internal and external customers.
- Conducts field inspections to areas assigned to Rail Janitors to monitor work performance and conditions.
- Inspects rail facilities for defects and reports defects to the Service Desk.
- Ensures Rail Janitors adhere to established rules, policies, and procedures.
- Monitors product usage to observe trends and make data-driven decisions for enhancements, new features, and products.
- Maintains weekly inventory of supplies and monitors conditions of janitorial cleaning equipment.
- Prepares and distributes reports and documents related to tasks performed.
- Assists with investigations and responses to grievances, and administers corrective actions in accordance with policies.
- Determines work procedures during inclement weather to ensure prompt snow or sleet removal at critical locations.
- Issues instructions to Rail Janitors and work groups.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining department initiatives, work processes, and procedures. Identifies areas for improvement within the Facilities Maintenance Department.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Ensure stations are kept clean, safe, and functional, and staff adhere to policies and procedures.
Education/Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED plus two years of janitorial and/or facilities maintenance experience, or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Valid State of Illinois Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements
- Stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, climbing.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, and materials.
- Knowledge of facility maintenance processes and inspection methods.
- Understanding of collective bargaining agreements and union contracts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good customer service skills.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Effective team leadership skills.
- Ability to write technical reports.
Working Conditions
- Work in field conditions, subject to weather.
- Travel throughout the CTA service area.
- Subject to noise, dust, moving vehicles, etc.
- Available for emergency calls 24/7.
- Work near moving vehicles and energized third rail.
Equipment, Tools, and Materials Utilized
- Standard office equipment.
- Personal computer, two-way radio, cell phone, and janitorial tools and materials.
