Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a Certified Trainee/Apprentice for a high-travel, field-based role across eastern or western US. You’ll be trained at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection and developed into a Certified Professional Operator in NDT rail flaw detection, with extensive field assignments.

Paid training starts at $20 per hour; upon certification and promotion, the base salary increases to $60,000 per year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to multitask and work with tools/equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend and successfully complete training at the Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn and apply rail detection methods across railways.
• Achieve certification in ultrasonic testing standards and apply in the field.
• Work collaboratively as part of a crew and develop leadership skills.
• Develop knowledge of Sperry's diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Learn to set up equipment, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs.
• Adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Apply training during extended travel assignments (3-4 months).
