Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is a field-based, travel-heavy role requiring extended assignments across the eastern or western United States. You will begin with training, learn ultrasonic testing and rail detection methods, and progress toward crew leadership roles.

The position emphasizes hands-on field work, equipment setup, and adherence to railroad safety protocols, with a clear path from Trainee to Certified Operator and beyond. Extensive travel is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience in NDT or railroad industry strongly preferred.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the US for extended periods.
• Ability to work in field conditions and on-site environments.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and effective communication skills.
• Must pass background, drug screen, and DOT physical where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Attend Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection training.
• Learn rail detection methods and apply them on railways.
• Achieve ultrasonic testing certification and use in the field.
• Work as part of a crew and develop leadership skills for a future team lead.
• Become familiar with Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Set up equipment, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs.
• Follow railroad safety procedures and travel on extended assignments.
