Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a Certified Operator Trainee for field-based work across the eastern or western United States. The role trains you to become a Certified Professional Operator in Rail Flaw Detection, with paid training through Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection and extensive field experience.

Upon successful completion, you may operate your own testing platform or lead a crew, with travel 3–4 months at a time. Travel and lodging are covered by Sperry.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Strong communication skills in verbal and written form.
• Ability to multitask and work with tools/equipment.

Responsibilities

• Attend and successfully complete training at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn and apply rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve certification in ultrasonic testing standards and apply skills in the field.
• Work collaboratively as part of a crew and develop leadership skills to eventually lead a team.
• Develop mechanical aptitude, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
• Learn and adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
