Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a Certified Trainee/Apprentice for a high-travel, field-based role across eastern or western US.

You will be trained at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection and then progress toward becoming a Certified Operator in RFD non-destructive testing. The position requires extended travel (3-4 months), hands-on testing, leadership opportunities, and a clear career path within a global field.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license needed.
• Basic computer proficiency expected.
• Ability to multitask with tools/equipment.
• Independent work capability with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve certification in ultrasonic testing standards in the field.
• Work as part of a crew and develop leadership skills for future roles.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Develop mechanical aptitude for equipment setup and basic repairs.
• Adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Perform extended travel assignments (3–4 months).
