Job summary

ZTR is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support major U.S. customers. The role is on-site, with hands-on troubleshooting, system commissioning, and customer training.

You will act as the on-site technical representative, collaborating with internal stakeholders and traveling up to 30% domestically and internationally. Applicants should have a 3-year diploma (Electronic Engineering Technology), PE/license, or electrician license, plus PLC and locomotive electricals expertise.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-year diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology, or Professional Engineer, or Valid electrician license
• Troubleshoot electrical control systems and locomotive electrical systems
• Advanced PLC programming and configuration skills
• Industrial communication protocols knowledge (e.g., Modbus)
• LAN/WAN/VPN and Wi‑Fi networking basics
• Microsoft Office proficiency
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Strong judgment and decision-making under pressure; customer service
• Hands-on technical experience
• Preference for locomotive or freight railway experience

Responsibilities

• Configure and support ZTR control systems using advanced PLC knowledge
• Perform on-site commissioning and investigative troubleshooting of ZTR equipment
• Provide technical training to customers on-site
• Collaborate with and support the sales team as required
• Participate in project coordination and project management activities as needed
• Travel domestically and internationally (approximately 15%–30%)
• After hours on-call support for local emergency troubleshooting
