Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an intern to help study interactions of ionizing radiation in matter and to develop advanced radiation sensors. You will join a multidisciplinary team of physicists, nuclear engineers, materials scientists, and chemists tackling real-world safety challenges, including screening and emergency response missions.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a PhD in physics or nuclear engineering
  • Have working knowledge of Python, Java, MATLAB, or C++
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.

Responsibilities

  • Develop approaches for sensing radiation in high background environments
  • Run transport simulations, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop algorithms
