Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites a PhD candidate in physics or nuclear engineering to join the Applied Chemistry and Physics group as an intern focused on sensing radiation in high background environments. You will help design advanced radiation sensors, run simulations, collect data, and analyze results in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications include pursuing a PhD, passion for sensor design, programming knowledge (Python, Java, MATLAB, or C++), and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Qualifications

  • You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you pursue a PhD in physics or nuclear engineering.
  • You have a passion for sensor design and programming experience in Python, Java, MATLAB, or C++.
  • You hold a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for access to APL facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop approaches for sensing radiation in high background environments.
  • Run transport simulations, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop algorithms.
