Job summary

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is hiring a Nuclear Safety Health Physics Technician I. Qualifications

• Bachelor degree with major coursework in physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics (nuclear sciences preferred).
• One year of professional experience in health physics, radiochemistry, environmental safety, or related field required.
• Prefers one year of experience with ionizing radiation, radiation protection standards, radiochemistry, and environmental monitoring methods.
• Hazwoper technician certification preferred; OHSA Hazwoper certification is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel and Word preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts radiological environmental monitoring program activities.
• Performs radiological surveys, inspections, and escorts of shipments of radioactive materials.
• Participates in radiological and emergency response actions as needed.
• Ensures compliance with Water Treatment Residual regulations and related requirements.
• Calibrates and operates environmental dosimeter reader systems.
• Maintains and calibrates sampling and surveying equipment.
• Participates in Radiological Task Force duties and remains available for callbacks during emergencies.
• Performs other duties within the scope of the job.
