About the Role

We are seeking an accomplished QuickBooks Financial Controller with deep, hands‑on QuickBooks expertise to take ownership of the company's accounting operations.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will have full responsibility for the General Ledger, lead the transition from an outside accounting firm to a fully in‑house accounting function, manage monthly close and reconciliations, prepare financial reporting, and oversee the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team.

QuickBooks expertise is essential for this position. This role requires more than day‑to‑day usage. You must be comfortable configuring and optimizing QuickBooks and have experience with QuickBooks implementations.

This is a hands‑on position for someone who is highly accurate, independent, comfortable working in a fast‑paced remote environment, and willing to support operational responsibilities beyond traditional accounting when needed.

Why This Opportunity?
  • Take full ownership of the company's accounting operations and General Ledger.
  • Become the internal QuickBooks expert for the organization.
  • Work directly with the CFO and play a key role in strengthening the finance function.
  • Lead the transition from outsourced accounting to a fully in‑house operation.
  • Manage and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Work remotely with significant autonomy and responsibility.
What You'll Do
QuickBooks & General Ledger
  • Configure and optimize QuickBooks to support the company's accounting structure and reporting requirements.
  • Lead or support QuickBooks configuration and implementation initiatives.
  • Lead the transition of the General Ledger from an outside accounting firm to an in‑house function.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and close the books monthly.
  • Establish and maintain the Chart of Accounts and appropriate classification standards.
Financial Reporting & Cash Management
  • Prepare accurate financial statements across the company's business divisions.
  • Prepare and review Profit & Loss (P&L) statements.
  • Oversee bank reconciliations.
  • Monitor the company's cash position.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable financial information for CFO review.
Team Leadership & Client Support
  • Supervise Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable specialists.
  • Review and approve invoices, hours reports, and client statements before distribution.
  • Review and approve payroll, vendor payments, and expense submissions.
  • Interface with clients regarding accounting-related requests when required.
  • Ensure accounting work completed by the team meets established standards.
  • Support operational and non-accounting matters that may arise within a small‑team environment.
Tax & Accounting Controls
  • Coordinate payroll tax, sales tax, and 1099‑related matters.
  • Execute accounting policies established by the CFO accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain strong accounting controls and a high standard of accuracy.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar senior accounting professional with full ownership of the General Ledger.
  • Advanced, hands‑on QuickBooks expertise.
  • Professional experience with QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Experience configuring QuickBooks and/or leading a QuickBooks implementation.
  • Strong experience managing the General Ledger, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and P&L reports.
  • Strong understanding of Chart of Accounts structures and accounting classifications.
  • Experience overseeing or working closely with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistently low error rates.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to execute accounting policies and procedures with precision.
  • Comfortable supporting operational responsibilities beyond traditional accounting.
  • C1/C2 English proficiency, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work with required overlap during U.S. business hours.

  • Experience transitioning an accounting function from an external accounting firm to an in‑house team.
  • Experience with BigTime or similar project accounting software.
  • Previous experience in professional services, interior design, architecture, construction, or project‑based businesses.
