Job summary

Carpenter Technology is seeking a Technician I – Quality Chemical Lab in Alabama. The role involves preparing steel, alloy, and slag specimens for analysis and performing instrumental analyses under direction.

You will inspect specimens, prepare samples, and maintain laboratory instruments following SOPs, with data registered in LIMS. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, with preferred chemistry coursework or associate degree, and the ability to work in a production environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate degree in Chemistry preferred.
• Entry level with training; fully qualify within six months.
• Knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures through training/qualification.
• Proficiency with LIMS system and instrument software.
• Ability to operate and maintain chemical lab equipment including LIMS and software.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Able to work in a production-oriented environment with and without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare steel, alloy, and slag specimens for analysis using various equipment.
• Perform routine analysis of specimens under direction using C/S combustion and N/O fusion instruments.
• Inspect test specimens for quality criteria and request replacements as needed.
• Register new specimens in the electronic laboratory management system (LIMS).
• Maintain instruments per SOP intervals and perform basic preventative maintenance.
• Review data and apply corrections based on reference materials.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
