Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation in Tanner, AL seeks a Technician - Quality Chemical Lab to perform preparation and analysis of steel, alloy and slag specimens using optical emission spectrometry and related instruments. You will register specimens in the LIMS, perform routine maintenance, and ensure data accuracy under moderate supervision.

A high school diploma and 1–2 years of lab experience are required, with six months as Technician I preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1–2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Six months experience as Technician I is required.
• Applicable knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures.
• Experience using instrument software and applying type correction to results.

Responsibilities

• Based on working knowledge of all machinery in area, prepares steel, alloy, and slag specimens and analyzes them by instrumental methods.
• Analyses involve several complex steps and require supervision.
• Inspect test specimens for quality and discard or replace samples as needed.
• Prepare test specimens using abrasive saws, grinders, and drills.
• Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance on sample preparation equipment.
• Register new test specimens into the electronic laboratory management system and ensure proper identification.
• Accurately perform analysis using C/S combustion instruments, N/O fusion instruments and optical emission spectrometers.
• Review test data and apply corrections based on certified reference materials or statistics.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
