Job summary

MMI Industrial & Steel in Mesa, AZ is seeking a Quality Control Inspector – Structural Steel (Shop) to ensure fabrication and welding meet drawings, codes, and our quality standards in the Mesa shop. The role requires in-process and final inspections of structural steel welds, material traceability checks, and thorough documentation while upholding safety and quality procedures in a hands-on environment.

Experience reading drawings and knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AISC, plus Tekla or similar

Qualifications

• Read and interpret structural steel drawings, weld symbols and specs.
• Perform in-process and final inspections of fabrication and welds.
• Maintain accurate documentation and traceability records.
• Ensure welding per Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and qualifications.
• Familiar with AWS D1.1, AISC and related codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process and final visual inspections of structural steel fabrication and welds in a shop environment.
• Verify material identification, heat numbers, and traceability against MTRs.
• Inspect assembly fit-up, welding, bolting, hole sizes, edge conditions, and tolerances.
• Ensure welding operations follow WPSs and qualified welders.
• Document inspection results and note repairs or re-inspections.
• Initiate and track NCRs when discrepancies are found.
