Job summary

MMI Industrial & Steel is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to join our on-site fabrication team. You will oversee visual and dimensional inspections, ensuring components meet blueprints, AWS D1.1/D1.8 and project specs.

You will document non-conformities, report findings, and support continuous improvement initiatives on a dynamic shop floor. The role requires 2+ years in QC within structural steel or industrial fabrication, strong attention to detail, and solid communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional quality-control training preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years in a quality control role within structural steel or industrial fabrication.
• Thorough knowledge of AISC standards, AWS D1.1 and D1.8 codes, and blueprint interpretation.
• Proven experience with inspection tools and implementing quality assurance processes.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is highly desirable but not mandatory.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset to identify quality issues.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of reporting to management and collaborating with teams.
• Basic computer skills for maintaining records in quality management systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of fabricated steel components to ensure precision and compliance with blueprints.
• Verify that all fabrications meet AWS standards and project-specific requirements.
• Document and report non-conformities and communicate issues to supervisors and production teams.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality processes and reduce defects.
• Maintain detailed records of quality inspections and prepare reports on findings and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with project managers and other departments to resolve quality-related issues promptly.
• Assist in development and implementation of quality control training programs for production staff.
• Conduct pre-fabrication and post-fabrication inspections to ensure components meet standards before assembly.
• Utilize measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures for accurate inspections.
• Ensure quality documentation is complete and compliant with industry standards and customer requirements.
