Job summary

LB Steel, LLC in Harvey, IL seeks a Quality Inspector to support the Production Staff within the Quality Control Team. You will interpret drawings, read weld symbols, and inspect weldments using precision tools, ensuring conformance to AWS D1.1 where applicable.

You will generate inspection reports, participate in corrective actions, and interact with multiple departments to resolve quality issues. Heavy fabrication experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read blueprints and inspect products.
• Proficient in standard and metric measurements using a tape measure.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 weld standards including symbols.
• Able to identify welding defects visually and with tools.
• Experience creating inspection reports and initiating corrective actions.
• Familiar with PFMEA, PPAP, APQP concepts preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• CWI or NDT experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and understand customer or internal drawings for inspection.
• Inspect weldments and products using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Create inspection reports and drive corrective actions when needed.
• Collaborate with Production and quality teams on issues.
• Assist in quality documentation and record keeping.
• Read and apply GD&T where required.
• Support the Quality Manager and production staff as needed.

Job description

DUTIES

Work within the Quality Control Team to provide support for Production Staff.

• Responsible for interpreting and understanding customer or internally generated drawings for inspection of product. Blueprint reading is a must.
• Deep understanding of standard/metric conversions. Ability to read both a standard and metric tape measure is a must.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Standards - including the ability to read weld symbols.
• Ability to identify welding defects both visually, and through use of inspection tools such as weld fillet gages, V-WAC gage, etc.
• Ability to create inspection reports and initiate corrective actions when required.
• Ability to use a variety of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thread gages, etc.
• Knowledge of standard types of quality documentation (i.e. PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, etc.) preferred, but not required.
• Strong computer skills are preferred, but not required.
• Requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Interact with all departments concerning manufacturing, customer, and supplier quality issues.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning &; Tolerancing (GD&T), preferred, but not required.
• CWI or NDT experience a plus!

High School Diploma/GED; Relevant work experience; Some technical training preferred.

NOTES

• Job requires standing for extended periods of time. Some bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting may also be required.
• Experienced Welders looking to move into an inspection role are encouraged to apply.
• We are a heavy metal fabricator - experience with large, complex weldments is required.
