Job summary

LB METALS LLC in Harvey, IL is seeking an Inspector to read and interpret customer and internal drawings for product inspection. You will inspect weldments, measure with calipers and micrometers, and document findings in formal reports.

The role requires a strong eye for detail and the ability to work with multiple departments to resolve quality issues. The ideal candidate has blueprint reading skills, GD&T familiarity, and prior inspection experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Relevant work experience in inspection or QA roles.
• Some technical training or coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and understand customer or internal drawings for product inspection; blueprint reading is essential.
• Read both standard and metric measurements accurately and apply conversions.
• Identify welding defects visually and with inspection tools.
• Create inspection reports and initiate corrective actions when needed.
• Use inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges.
• Familiarity with PFMEA, PPAP, APQP is a plus but not required.
• Communicate quality issues across departments to address root causes.

Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $60,000.00 Salary/year
Job Shift: 1st

DUTIES

• Responsible for interpreting and understanding customer or internally generated drawings for inspection of product. Blueprint reading is a must.
• Deep understanding of standard/metric conversions. Ability to read both a standard and metric tape measure is a must.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Standards – including the ability to read weld symbols.
• Ability to identify welding defects both visually, and through use of inspection tools such as weld fillet gages, V-WAC gage, etc.
• Ability to create inspection reports and initiate corrective actions when required.
• Ability to use a variety of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thread gages, etc.
• Knowledge of standard types of quality documentation (i.e. PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, etc.) preferred, but not required.
• Strong computer skills are preferred, but not required.
• Requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Interact with all departments concerning manufacturing, customer, and supplier quality issues.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), preferred, but not required.
• CWI or NDT experience a plus!

• Job requires standing for extended periods of time. Some bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting may also be required.
