Job Title: Quality Assurance Specialist - Bakery

About New Horizons: New Horizons Baking Company has been in operation since 1967. We produce ready-to-eat hamburger buns and English muffins for iconic brands, serving over 2,000 quick service restaurants across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Western Pennsylvania, as well as national retail and sandwich makers.

We are expanding into a new state-of-the-art facility south of Hilliard (West Columbus, OH), featuring a bun production line capable of producing over 8,000 dozen hamburger buns per hour. As we near the completion of construction, we are building our team and seeking dedicated individuals to join us in this exciting new chapter. Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly pay: $22.81
  • Location: Columbus, OH
  • Hours: Night shift with occasional weekend support

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Specialist supports the Quality Systems Manager in all aspects of food safety and quality assurance. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, monitoring processes, and maintaining accurate documentation to uphold product quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Quality Systems Manager with daily quality and food safety operations.
  • Conduct and document plant inspections, including GMP audits, safety assessments, metal detector validations, HACCP observations, and product quality assessments.
  • Monitor and report on food safety and quality performance.
  • Investigate and address product quality or safety concerns.
  • Ensure understanding and implementation of GMPs, sanitation, recall procedures, HACCP, and related standards.
  • Perform inspections on raw materials and finished products, including coding, pH, moisture, sensory scoring, and equipment calibration.
  • Communicate quality issues promptly to relevant personnel.
  • Conduct environmental and air quality testing as scheduled.
  • Verify ingredient receiving procedures and audit documentation.
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits (AIB, FDA, HACCP, SQF).
  • Maintain allergen control records.
  • Collaborate with production on on-hold products.
  • Maintain accurate records of all quality activities.
  • Support and deliver quality training programs.
  • Serve as backup to the Quality Systems Manager and other roles as needed.

Food Safety, Quality, and Compliance:

  • Enforce all safety, quality, and compliance programs.
  • Verify documentation accuracy and recordkeeping.
  • Identify and correct food safety or quality issues.
  • Prepare for GFSI and third-party audits.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to complete required documentation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for up to 8 hours.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
