Job description

We are on a mission to grow Second Nature Brands 4x from $500MM to $1+B in the next 4 years through a combination of organic growth (increased distribution, e-commerce, and innovation) and through M&A. We have an opening for a Quality Assurance Technician position, who will be an important member of the supply chain team during this growth. This position will be based out of our Kar’s Nuts Products facility located at 1200 East 14 Mile in Madison Heights, Michigan.

This role ensures that all products meet company and regulatory quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include monitoring production processes, conducting inspections and tests, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to maintain compliance with food safety regulations. Additionally, the technician will assist operations by managing the movement, storage, and distribution of finished goods. The role is essential in ensuring production runs smoothly and efficiently while maintaining food safety standards.

Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 5:00pm to 1:00am, with weekday or weekend overtime as needed. The starting rate is $18.00 per hour plus a $1.00 shift premium.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Ensure that product is made according to specifications by measuring and testing raw and finished products using basic laboratory equipment.
  2. Place non-conforming products on hold for further inspection and disposition as needed.
  3. Check various measurements in accordance with SQF requirements and standards.
  4. Perform visual inspections and ATP swabs on equipment post-sanitation.
  5. Perform Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audits and monitor adherence to GMPs on the production floor.
  6. Communicate issues effectively to appropriate personnel (Packers, production, maintenance, etc.).
  7. Complete accurate QA documentation using basic computer skills.
  8. Follow all GMP, Q&FS, and OSHA Safety policies.
  9. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  1. 18 years of age or older.
  2. High School diploma or equivalent.
  3. Basic math skills.
  4. Calculator and computer proficiency.
  5. English language proficiency.
  6. Self-directed and able to work well with peers and supervisors.
  7. Good oral and written communication skills.
  8. Attention to detail, good organizational skills, ability to follow directions, and independence in work.
  9. Minimum 1-year previous food safety and quality assurance experience (Required).
  10. Other job-related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Work involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. The environment can be noisy, and personal protective equipment may be required. This is an indoor food manufacturing setting.
