About New Horizons:

New Horizons Baking Company has been in operation since 1967. We produce ready to eat hamburger buns and English muffins for some of the most iconic brands. We currently serve over 2,000 quick service restaurants across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Western Pennsylvania as well as national retail and sandwich makers!

Join us as we expand into a new state-of-the-art facility just south of Hilliard (West Columbus, OH). This exciting new location will feature a cutting-edge bun production line, capable of producing over 8,000 dozen hamburger buns per hour. As we are near the completion of construction, we're building up our team and looking for dedicated individuals to be a part of this exciting new chapter.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly: $22.81

Location: Columbus, OH

Hours: Night shift with occasional weekend support as needed.

Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for supporting the Quality Systems Manager in all aspects of food safety and quality assurance. This role involves conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, monitoring processes, and maintaining accurate documentation to uphold product quality and safety standards across the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support the Quality Systems Manager in daily quality and food safety operations.
  • Conduct and document plant inspections, including:
    • Weekly GMP audits and safety assessments
    • Daily GMP checks and documentation verification
    • Metal detector check validations
    • HACCP-related observations and documentation
    • Product quality assessments and remedial action as needed
  • Monitor and report food safety and quality performance across the plant.
  • Investigate and follow through on any product quality or food safety concerns, including employee compliance.
  • Ensure understanding and implementation of GMPs, sanitation processes, recall procedures, HACCP policies, and related quality standards.
  • Perform daily inspections on raw materials and finished products, including:
    • Coding, pH, moisture levels, sensory scoring, and specification compliance
    • Equipment calibration (e.g., Dipix, EyePro)
  • Communicate quality issues to department leads, supervisors, and the management team in a timely manner.
  • Conduct environmental and air quality testing in accordance with internal schedules and customer requirements.
  • Verify ingredient receiving procedures and audit material receiving documentation.
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits (e.g., AIB, FDA, HACCP, SQF).
  • Maintain and update allergen control program records.
  • Collaborate with production to determine appropriate action for on-hold products.
  • Maintain clear communication and accurate recordkeeping of all quality-related activities.
  • Support quality training programs and assist in delivering monthly training sessions.
  • Serve as backup support for Quality Systems Manager, Compliance Manager, Quality Technician, or Product Compliance & Development Technologist as needed.

Food Safety, Quality, and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Enforce all food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Verify documentation accuracy and ensure proper recordkeeping.
  • Identify, report, and take corrective action on food safety or quality concerns.
  • Follow and uphold the programs outlined in the Food Safety and Quality Manual and maintain readiness for GFSI and third-party audits.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to understand and complete required documentation and forms


Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for up to 8 hours
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of following both written and verbal instructions
