Job summary

The Toledo Zoo is seeking a Purchasing Manager for a full-time role to manage high-volume procurement and support operations across all departments. You will obtain quotes, negotiate terms, and recommend vendors to ensure a steady supply of equipment and services, while maintaining accurate inventory and reporting.

Under supervision of the Director of Food Service Operations, this exempt position requires dedication to efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with a drug-free workplace policy.

Qualifications

• 5 years of hands-on experience as a buyer, purchasing agent, or procurement specialist preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience qualifies.
• Must possess the required certification in Food Service sanitation.
• Position requires forklift operation certification.
• Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
• Must be at least 21+ years of age.
• The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.

Responsibilities

Purchasing Manager (Full-Time)

Toledo Zoo & Aquarium

The Toledo Zoo is currently seeking a full-time Purchasing Manager. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking, organized individual interested in working in a high volume and fast-paced environment while supporting our mission to: Enjoy. Inspire. Educate. Act!

Under general supervision, the Purchasing Manager obtains competitive quotes, negotiates prices and terms, and makes vendor recommendations for supplies, equipment, and services. They are responsible for maintaining inventory control of stock items to meet the Zoo’s requisition needs in all departments. In addition, this position prepares and processes required reports and records.

The Purchasing Manager reports to the Director of Food Service Operations. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires time worked in excess of forty hours per week.

Minimum Training and Experience

• 5 years of hands-on experience as a buyer, purchasing agent, or procurement specialist preferred.
• High school diploma previous experience in warehousing, stocking, inventory control, shipping and receiving, and other related areas, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
• Must possess the required certification in Food Service sanitation.
• Position requires forklift operation certification.
• Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
• Must be at least 21+ years of age.
