Job summary

Birk Manufacturing Inc. in East Lyme, CT is seeking a Purchasing Clerk to support day-to-day purchasing for materials used in finished products and production. This full-time, on-site role involves preparing purchase orders, tracking orders, communicating with suppliers, and entering data into the ERP system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and follow through on commitments.
• Data entry and ERP experience is a plus.
• Previous manufacturing, purchasing, inventory, or supply chain experience is a plus.
• Basic Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit purchase orders to approved suppliers based on material requirements and internal requests.
• Review purchase orders for accuracy, including quantities, pricing, part numbers, specifications, and delivery dates.
• Communicate with suppliers to obtain order acknowledgements and delivery updates.
• Track open and past-due purchase orders and communicate delays to appropriate departments.
• Enter purchase orders, receipts, supplier information, and other purchasing data accurately into the ERP system.
• Review packing lists and incoming materials to ensure receipts are properly documented.
• Assist with resolving discrepancies between purchase orders, packing slips, receipts, and invoices.
• Work closely with Receiving, Supply Chain, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Accounting to resolve purchasing and material issues.
• Assist with obtaining supplier quotes and pricing as requested.
• Maintain accurate supplier and purchasing information in the ERP system.
• Support inventory and material requirements by helping ensure necessary components and supplies are ordered on time.
• As experience is gained, assist with identifying alternative suppliers, materials, or purchasing options.
