Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking experienced Pulsed Power Engineers to support NIF/LMF projects. The role focuses on designing, qualifying, and upgrading high‑energy pulsed power systems in a 24/7 mission facility, with emphasis on safety, reliability, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.

Positions require on‑site work, DOE Q clearance eligibility, and a track record of hands‑on hardware development, testing, and diagnostics for high‑voltage systems.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge in pulsed power, high‑voltage power conversion, capacitor storage, diagnostics, trigger systems, and EMI/RFI.
  • Experience qualifying prototype or first‑of‑kind high‑voltage hardware with test plans and qualification procedures.
  • Familiarity with electrical/optical diagnostics for pulsed power loads and with fabrication partners, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Ability to lead independent technical work, guide complex projects, and communicate across organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and upgrade pulsed power hardware for NIF laser systems, including prototypes for EYC and obsolete component replacements.
  • Define, execute, and qualify test plans and acceptance criteria for high‑energy pulsed power components.
  • Support design reviews, safety reviews, and readiness reviews; present results to stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineers and coordinate with technicians, vendors, and integrators to ensure built hardware meets plans.
