Qualifications

  • Degree-level or higher qualification in a scientific discipline.
  • 3–4+ years of publications experience in a medical communications setting.
  • Experience leading publication plans or high‑profile scientific communications programs.
  • Strong client-facing experience with strategic counsel and relationship management.
  • Extensive experience supporting peer review, manuscript revisions, and publication development.
  • Solid knowledge of publication compliance standards and guidelines (GPP, ICMJE, authorship, disclosure, ethics).
  • Exposure to business development activities (proposals, pitches, competitive intelligence).
  • Hybrid availability for the Boston or New York office 2–3 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead publications and medical communications projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables (manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress materials, slides).
  • Own publication plans and strategic programs from planning through execution, as primary client contact.
  • Provide strategic guidance on publication planning and evidence dissemination initiatives.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and risks for successful delivery.
  • Build trusted client relationships, manage expectations, identify value opportunities.
  • Leverage peer review expertise to support manuscript development and responses.
  • Ensure activities align with publication standards and disclosure requirements.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, and other teams.
  • Support business development through proposals, pitches, competitive analyses, and client presentations.
  • Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.

Publications Manager

EPM is partnering with an independent, award-winning global healthcare agency specializing in medical communications, market access, and HEOR. Due to continued demand from both new and existing biopharma clients, the agency is hiring a Publication Manager to join its Medical Communications team in the US!

This is a highly visible opportunity to take a leading role across publications projects, provide strategic direction to clients, manage project teams, and contribute to the agency’s continued growth in the US market. This role also gives you the opportunity to help shape a growing US operation while being supported by established global teams across the UK and Asia.

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of scientific expertise, publications leadership, client engagement, and commercial awareness. They will have experience owning publication plans and other high-profile scientific communications initiatives end-to-end, serving as a trusted client partner, navigating peer review processes, ensuring publication compliance, and contributing to business development activities that support account growth and new client acquisition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead publications and medical communications projects, ensuring high-quality scientific deliverables across manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress materials, slide decks, and related communications.
  • Own publication plans and strategic scientific communications programs from planning through execution, serving as a primary client contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on publication planning, scientific communication strategies, and evidence dissemination initiatives.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and risks to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Build trusted client relationships, manage expectations, and identify opportunities to add value across ongoing and future projects.
  • Leverage peer review expertise to support manuscript development, reviewer responses, and publication success.
  • Ensure publication activities align with industry standards and guidelines, including GPP, ICMJE, authorship requirements, disclosure standards, and publication ethics best practices.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Publications, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts through proposals, pitch materials, competitive intelligence, landscape analyses, and client presentations.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Key Qualifications:
  • Degree-level or higher qualification in a scientific discipline.
  • 3-4+ years of publications experience within a medical communications agency, medical writing agency, pharmaceutical company, CRO, or similar environment.
  • Experience leading publication plans, publications accounts, or high-profile scientific communications programs from strategy through delivery.
  • Strong client-facing experience with demonstrated ability to manage relationships and provide strategic counsel.
  • Extensive experience supporting peer review, manuscript revisions, and publication development activities.
  • Strong knowledge of publication compliance standards and industry guidelines, including GPP, ICMJE, authorship requirements, publication ethics, and disclosure practices.
  • Exposure to business development activities, including proposal development, pitch deck creation, competitive intelligence, and account growth initiatives.
  • Hybrid availability for the Boston or New York office 2-3 days per week.
