Job summary

The Village of South Holland, Illinois, is looking for a Landscape Professional to join the Public Works Department. You will perform entry-level work in construction, demolition, installation and repair of Village assets, and support parks and grounds maintenance using hand tools and light equipment.

Responsibilities include routine horticultural tasks and minor facility and equipment repairs, with driving duties for garbage pickup and yard waste.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in Municipal Public Works, Parks Maintenance, or related fields such as concrete or asphalt work.
• Must have experience in underground utility construction or sports field maintenance.
• High school diploma/GED equivalent is required.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to acquire a license within 90 days of hire.
• Maintain that License and Endorsements without interruption throughout employment.

Job description

The Village of South Holland, Illinois, a leading suburb located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago with a population of approximately 22,000, is seeking a Landscape Professional with its Public Works Department.

Department: Public Works

Starting Salary Range : $26.26 to $31.17 per hour

Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, Public Works Supervisor, or a Public Works Crew Leader, employees in this class perform a variety of entry level work as a member of a crew or an individual engaged in the construction, demolition, installation and repair of Village Assets. These tasks in volve manual labor requiring the use of hand tools and light equipment operation in all weather conditions. Work may involve the construction, demolition, installation and repair of water, sewer and stormwater lines, street maintenance, sanitation, building maintenance and general housekeeping, parks, and grounds/property maintenance work. Work also includes driving a pickup or dump trucks to collect garbage, leaves, limbs, appliances, furniture and other yard waste and trash, routine horticultural tasks, street sign maintenance, and minor facility and equipment repair. Work assignments are repetitive in nature and can usually be performed with little supervision.

Requirements:

• Must have experience in Municipal Public Works, Parks Maintenance, or related fields such as concrete or asphalt work
• Must have experience in underground utility construction or sports field maintenance
• High school diploma/GED equivalent is required
